With 11 nominations, the weird and poignant movie “Everything Everywhere All at Once” took the top spot among those up for the 95th Academy Awards on Tuesday. With nine nominations each, “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “All Quiet on the Western Front” came in second and third.

Both of the blockbusters “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” received nominations for best picture, and the candidates boast a strong cast. As seasoned professionals in the field, Rihanna and Lady Gaga were both nominated in the original song category (for songs from the films “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” respectively).

These actors include Angela Bassett, who received a nomination for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in the category of best supporting actress; Jamie Lee Curtis for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” in the same category; Best supporting actor nominees include Judd Hirsch in “The Fabelmans,” Colin Farrell in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Brendan Fraser in “The Whale,” and best actress nominees Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams, and Michelle Yeoh for “The Fabelmans,” “Tár,” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” respectively.

The nominations were announced by Riz Ahmed, who won an Oscar last year for his work in the short film “The Long Goodbye,” and Allison Williams, who most recently appeared in the horror movie “M3GAN.”

On Sunday, March 12, the Academy Awards are scheduled to take place.
