Depending on how much information you need, your laptop can bring it all together for you. It can also be a source of entertainment while you are waiting for storms to fire.

The entertainment value - If you are finding yourself sitting and waiting, why not put a DVD into your laptop and catch a movie? If you are a music fan, you can integrate your music on your laptop into your car stereo. If you have a wireless internet connection, check your email, read the news, or download the latest weather maps and find out where you SHOULD be!!

A laptop can be the central link to all of your other equipment. You can use it to program your scanner or amateur radio. It can be a display for your mapping software, and with a GPS connected, you can have realtime tracking! You can use it with a wireless internet connection to get up-to-the-minute radar and satellite images. It may be used for your APRS inteface to visually track yourself and other amateur radio operators over a map (see aprs).

The size of your laptop should definately be a consideration. Although it is nice to have a big screen, mounting it in your vehicle may be a concern. Some have moved to pocket pcs. There is a growing number of software available for these devices, so they should not be overlooked!
