A GPS can make your life on the road a lot easier! If you are a single chaser (no copilot) or you and your copilot hate reading maps, this is the gadget for you.
With mapping software installed on your PC, you can track yourself in real-time. With other software you may choose to overlay your position to the latest radar or
satellite image. With APRS, you can also track yourself in real-time as well as others.
Some GPSs have maps built in, are color or monochrome, and can be programmed with your PC with detailed street-level maps. Other GPSs available are not bigger than a PC mouse and are used just to send information to the device you have it connected to. Prices can range from $75 to over $1000. Choose the options that you want/need wisely!
Garmin and Magellan are big players in the industry. I would suggest getting a GPS with maps built in if you are not going to use a laptop. If a laptop is used, the maps produced from it are far better than the GPS produced maps, so the less expensive GPS will do the job just fine.
